It is a lab based off of the Phet Simulation of Density and Buoyency. Students will place blocks of different mass, density, and volume into water trying to predict which objects would float and which would not. When students are finished they should have a better understanding of mass, volume and density and how they relate to each other.</span><br />

It has been about a year since I added a post to this blog. The reason for this is that I have been working on a new and improved method of sharing educational ideas, tools, tech tips, and resources. I have created a new site at <a href="http://educationalresource.org/">Educationalresource.org</a>. I will be updating and posting to this site from now on. Please come and explore the new site an let me know what you think.</div>

About a month ago, some of you may have been in the same boat as I, which is where the Smart Ink toolbar quit working with the latest version of Google Chrome. This was a great loss, but easily overcome by just using a different browser. You don't have to worry about it now. I just installed the latest update for Smart Ink and this problem seems to be fixed.</div>

One of my most popular posts has been about the ability to turn off the Smart Ink, a product of the Smart Notebook and Smartboard system. I really, really, really like Smart Ink and really don't understand why so many people have an issue with the toolbar being visible on their open windows. I use Smart Ink all the time during my math class to write on top of PDF files, tests, quizzes and the like. Well the cool thing is that Smart Tech has just added a new feature to the Smart Ink Settings. You can now click a simple check box that will hide the toolbar until you use one of the Smartboard markers to draw on an open window. In three clicks the set up will be complete after you have installed the latest updates.<br />
<br />
Here is how:<br />
<br />
1. Install the latest Smartboard/Notebook updates. Open up your Notebook software and click the "Help" option from the menu bar. Choose the "Check for Updates and Activation" option.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mWT8HxkbfLs/UzCjEOYArpI/AAAAAAAAGjk/CcnPbl6AXcQ/s1600/Screenshot_3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mWT8HxkbfLs/UzCjEOYArpI/AAAAAAAAGjk/CcnPbl6AXcQ/s1600/Screenshot_3.jpg" height="236" width="320" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Click the "Check Now" button at the bottom right. This will check to make sure you have the latest updates. If you don't, the "whited out" buttons will appear. Click the "update" buttons for both your Smart Notebook and Smart Ink.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ADTbB_ADtZQ/UzCji-50ChI/AAAAAAAAGjs/QscAudmWNdM/s1600/Screenshot_4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ADTbB_ADtZQ/UzCji-50ChI/AAAAAAAAGjs/QscAudmWNdM/s1600/Screenshot_4.jpg" height="233" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Now click the "Smart Ink" floating tool bar and choose the "Settings" option.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PW9mGFCp-Rs/UzCkBl0O-BI/AAAAAAAAGj0/UwoOY75nmBw/s1600/Screenshot_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PW9mGFCp-Rs/UzCkBl0O-BI/AAAAAAAAGj0/UwoOY75nmBw/s1600/Screenshot_1.jpg" height="186" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. Once in settings all you have to do is click the "check box" that says "Hide Smart Ink toolbars until you draw over a window."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nsb_pddCxMI/UzCkLcx2k2I/AAAAAAAAGj8/tmAm9D3pGM0/s1600/Screenshot_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nsb_pddCxMI/UzCkLcx2k2I/AAAAAAAAGj8/tmAm9D3pGM0/s1600/Screenshot_2.jpg" height="197" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Make sure you click the "Apply" button down on the bottom right of the Smart Ink Settings window.<br />
<br />
This should help get rid of the toolbar until you need it.<br />
<br /></div>

How do I find out how many files do I have.<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Sometimes you want to find out how many files you actually have in Google Drive. Mostly what you will find is just how much space your files are taking up which you can find that by just looking at the bottom left side of your Google Drive.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6xG-zH4w8fA/Us4md7Ia-2I/AAAAAAAAGWY/75ItciCfraA/s1600/Screenshot_1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6xG-zH4w8fA/Us4md7Ia-2I/AAAAAAAAGWY/75ItciCfraA/s1600/Screenshot_1.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you want to see how many actual files you have follow these tutorial steps.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. Make sure you are in the Drive section where all your documents and folders are located and not actually in a folder, even those these instructions will work the same if you want to find out how many files you have in a single folder. Once you are there, click on check box at the very top next to the word "Title." This will select all of your folders and files.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QUUqcOV6lHU/Us4nLWDWiZI/AAAAAAAAGWg/ApavPm3yaRA/s1600/Screenshot_2.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QUUqcOV6lHU/Us4nLWDWiZI/AAAAAAAAGWg/ApavPm3yaRA/s1600/Screenshot_2.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Now click on the "More" button.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ouvBQP9W61E/Us4niK9APYI/AAAAAAAAGWo/kG_eSTF926I/s1600/Screenshot_3.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ouvBQP9W61E/Us4niK9APYI/AAAAAAAAGWo/kG_eSTF926I/s1600/Screenshot_3.png" height="54" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Click on the "Download" option.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-57235XbCeug/Us4nsyDm8uI/AAAAAAAAGWw/9Xws4iqNvqA/s1600/Screenshot_4.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-57235XbCeug/Us4nsyDm8uI/AAAAAAAAGWw/9Xws4iqNvqA/s1600/Screenshot_4.png" height="280" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. You should now see numbers next to the different document types. This should be easier than just counting them individually.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p0ss4jBZWzY/Us4oCca15yI/AAAAAAAAGW4/F8APnns3Z2E/s1600/Screenshot_5.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p0ss4jBZWzY/Us4oCca15yI/AAAAAAAAGW4/F8APnns3Z2E/s1600/Screenshot_5.png" height="262" width="320" /></a></div>

At last I have found a free music score creator. I would have been willing to pay also, but wasn't sure whether or not the software was worth it. <a href="http://www.noteflight.com/">Noteflight.com </a>allows you to create and learn the software with full ability to create your own score. They will let you create up to 10 scores with 15 instruments and still allow you to embed and share your scores online. You can always upgrade and get many more options, but for now I can explore the software. I truly have been looking for a means of creating my own music, not that I have the talent yet to do so, but it is something on my bucket list. If you are a music teacher and you have advanced students then this software might be great for them. If you are currently using a full membership of <a href="http://www.noteflight.com/">Noteflight</a>, please comment below on how it is benefiting your music classroom. <br />
<br />
Here is a quick tutorial one the benefits of <a href="http://www.noteflight.com/">Noteflight</a>.<br />
<br />
1. Go to <a href="http://www.noteflight.com/">www.noteflight.com</a> and create a profile/account. Once you have an account and are logged in, click the "New Score" button.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sLBmO7Pd9ko/UstGg3bQf6I/AAAAAAAAGV0/ebAwQEpwNF4/s1600/Screenshot_1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sLBmO7Pd9ko/UstGg3bQf6I/AAAAAAAAGV0/ebAwQEpwNF4/s1600/Screenshot_1.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
2. Decide what type of music score you are wanting to create. You can either do a private or a shared score with the free version.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6bJ9jOOwd6U/UstGeRyhwmI/AAAAAAAAGVY/xWebl2kvBIw/s1600/Screenshot_2.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6bJ9jOOwd6U/UstGeRyhwmI/AAAAAAAAGVY/xWebl2kvBIw/s1600/Screenshot_2.png" height="225" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
3. Give your song a title and who the composer and lyricist are. In this case that would be me.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-klsIu7kWmSk/UstGeYSGsmI/AAAAAAAAGVQ/E0Ufh90v2jg/s1600/Screenshot_3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-klsIu7kWmSk/UstGeYSGsmI/AAAAAAAAGVQ/E0Ufh90v2jg/s1600/Screenshot_3.png" height="40" width="320" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. Down at the very bottom you can change the tempo of you music.<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-21OlE7reXow/UstGfC-A9wI/AAAAAAAAGVg/qo9x_mLHY3s/s1600/Screenshot_4.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-21OlE7reXow/UstGfC-A9wI/AAAAAAAAGVg/qo9x_mLHY3s/s1600/Screenshot_4.png" height="56" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
5. The "Staff" tab give you the ability to play with your time and key signatures. You can also add voice here.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zP6Orf2weZQ/UstGfSo7eeI/AAAAAAAAGVo/q1L_QuE1368/s1600/Screenshot_5.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zP6Orf2weZQ/UstGfSo7eeI/AAAAAAAAGVo/q1L_QuE1368/s1600/Screenshot_5.png" height="320" width="187" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
6. Now just start adding the parts of the music by hovering your mouse over the empty measure. Click on the type of music symbols that you will need to create your music. Just left click on a measure, moving your mouse up and down to place your notes in the right section.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kM4X_QAca6E/UstGfzuLuDI/AAAAAAAAGVw/hDeUmBjx-A8/s1600/Screenshot_6.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kM4X_QAca6E/UstGfzuLuDI/AAAAAAAAGVw/hDeUmBjx-A8/s1600/Screenshot_6.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
7. You can also create your music in HTML 5 which might be easier for you. I personally prefer HTML 5 over Flash. Give both ways a try. To get to the HTML 5 music score creator, just go to "View" and select the "Switch to HTML5 Editor" option. The layout looks a little cleaner, but the options are all the same.<br />

The online <a href="http://www.onlinecharttool.com/">ChartTool </a>is another useful tool to use when trying to teach students about the different types of graphs and charts. You can use this tool to create bar, line, area, and pie charts. You can use it to graph X and Y coordinates, create scatter and bubble charts. All you need to do is have your students is gather data and then plug it in to the different fields and in seconds you have an easy explain data chart. In the tutorial below I will demonstrate just the bar chart, but just like all software the best way to understand its uses is to "play" with it yourself.<br />
<a href="http://img34.imageshack.us/i/0qd0.png/" target="_blank"><img alt="Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us" border="0" height="295" src="http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/109/0qd0.png" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
1. Go to <a href="http://www.onlinecharttool.com/">http://www.onlinecharttool.com</a>. After you create a user name and are logged in just click the "Design your chart" button.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w1lhAitpGeQ/UsW84hDKvXI/AAAAAAAAGQc/GmiAkg6foIk/s1600/Screenshot_1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="126" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w1lhAitpGeQ/UsW84hDKvXI/AAAAAAAAGQc/GmiAkg6foIk/s320/Screenshot_1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
2. Pick the type of chart you want to create.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ogIhHpYRJM8/UsW848j51xI/AAAAAAAAGQY/u9VvqSk2Xq4/s1600/Screenshot_2.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="141" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ogIhHpYRJM8/UsW848j51xI/AAAAAAAAGQY/u9VvqSk2Xq4/s400/Screenshot_2.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
3. Now click the "Add Data" tab.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-apC0fqLwwJM/UsW85OQF7MI/AAAAAAAAGQg/z6iXit6lGBk/s1600/Screenshot_3.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="27" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-apC0fqLwwJM/UsW85OQF7MI/AAAAAAAAGQg/z6iXit6lGBk/s400/Screenshot_3.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
4. Give your chart a title, describe your X and Y Axis. The nice thing about the <a href="http://www.onlinecharttool.com/">ChartTool </a>is that you can also import CSV files if you are taking data from an existing source.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G7M7RO-YedM/UsW85RwqrzI/AAAAAAAAGQ8/8P3vdNcK7ic/s1600/Screenshot_4.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-G7M7RO-YedM/UsW85RwqrzI/AAAAAAAAGQ8/8P3vdNcK7ic/s400/Screenshot_4.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
5. Decide how many items and groups you are going to need. Give each group a color and label. Give each item a name and a value. That value is what your students should have already researched. Add your data set labels and their values.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kpchbCE40vU/UsW85o5FgEI/AAAAAAAAGQ4/3Zyz_vHbIWo/s1600/Screenshot_5.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="201" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kpchbCE40vU/UsW85o5FgEI/AAAAAAAAGQ4/3Zyz_vHbIWo/s400/Screenshot_5.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
6. Don't forget to "Play" with the title options off to the right. Then click the "Next" button.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--G3K6c2anEI/UsW852HOthI/AAAAAAAAGQw/yjlDTEO8CCw/s1600/Screenshot_6.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--G3K6c2anEI/UsW852HOthI/AAAAAAAAGQw/yjlDTEO8CCw/s1600/Screenshot_6.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
7. On the "Labels and Fonts" tab you can now play with how you want your data labels to be. Below you can also change the fonts.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P8ngeYUdoPw/UsW86lftbbI/AAAAAAAAGRQ/kQbC9A91w5w/s1600/Screenshot_8.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="75" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P8ngeYUdoPw/UsW86lftbbI/AAAAAAAAGRQ/kQbC9A91w5w/s400/Screenshot_8.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
8. Now decided how big you would like your graph to be. You should also be seeing a chart preview. You may go back and fourth between tabs to change the fonts and colors as you want.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kiDanRgsAEk/UsW863UbFTI/AAAAAAAAGRM/TDKsJox_2T0/s1600/Screenshot_9.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="62" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kiDanRgsAEk/UsW863UbFTI/AAAAAAAAGRM/TDKsJox_2T0/s400/Screenshot_9.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
9. On the "Save and Share" tab you can now save your chart in many different formats. You can post it to Twitter, Facebook or Google Plus. You can also email yourself the chart. The way I do it, is have my students paste the image into a Google Doc and share it with me. If you click the "Save Chart image online" option the <a href="http://www.onlinecharttool.com/">ChartTool </a>will give you an embed code to add to your website or blog.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UfoqIY7HBFE/UsW84mlALeI/AAAAAAAAGQQ/e0WdywrKlDM/s1600/Screenshot_10.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="100" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UfoqIY7HBFE/UsW84mlALeI/AAAAAAAAGQQ/e0WdywrKlDM/s400/Screenshot_10.png" width="400" /></a></div>

I remember working with my dad when we were building the house ( I was about 12) during which time I heard on more than one occasion that I had crooked eyeballs. After playing the Eyeball game, I feel confident that I probably have straighter eyeballs than he does. I am thinking about challenging him to a game to see who really has the crooked eyeballs.<br />
<br />
Here is a quick view as to what the Eyeball game is all about.<br />
<br />
1. First this game can be used during down times, where you might have some "free time" with your students. You know when you have an early release, or 20 minute classes because of an assembly.<br />
<br />
2. Go to <a href="http://woodgears.ca/eyeball/">http://woodgears.ca/eyeball/</a><br />
<br />
3. Each section of the game give you parts of a geometric shape. Your goal is to complete the shape as closes as you can, by dragging the "Square" into the correct position, in this case to make a parallelogram.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K2j6HNA3YSE/UsRuiWqSObI/AAAAAAAAGPw/wPi3EPcSJn0/s1600/Screenshot_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K2j6HNA3YSE/UsRuiWqSObI/AAAAAAAAGPw/wPi3EPcSJn0/s320/Screenshot_2.jpg" width="241" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. After you let go of your left mouse button, a "green" set of line segments will appear to show you how close you were to getting the shape correct. It scores you down at the bottom. Click next to go to the next shape.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aqIWgxCgSzw/UsRuiVnmtNI/AAAAAAAAGPg/nwmvXFDWUNM/s1600/Screenshot_3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aqIWgxCgSzw/UsRuiVnmtNI/AAAAAAAAGPg/nwmvXFDWUNM/s320/Screenshot_3.jpg" width="320" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aqIWgxCgSzw/UsRuiVnmtNI/AAAAAAAAGPg/nwmvXFDWUNM/s1600/Screenshot_3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aqIWgxCgSzw/UsRuiVnmtNI/AAAAAAAAGPg/nwmvXFDWUNM/s1600/Screenshot_3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aqIWgxCgSzw/UsRuiVnmtNI/AAAAAAAAGPg/nwmvXFDWUNM/s1600/Screenshot_3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aqIWgxCgSzw/UsRuiVnmtNI/AAAAAAAAGPg/nwmvXFDWUNM/s1600/Screenshot_3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><br /></a></div>

5. Your scores will appear to the right. You need to play 3 rounds so that your scores can be averaged.<br />

<br />
<br />
6. One of the really cool things I like about this game is that you now get to see how you did compared to the last 10,000 games. As you can see I don't have the worst eyeballs, but I don't have the best either. I might need to play a few more times.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I have tried many comic strip makers and have them listed on my <a href="http://educationwebcloud.blogspot.com/p/web-20-list.html" target="_blank">web 2.0 page</a>. <a href="http://www.storyboardthat.com/" target="_blank">StoryBoardThat</a> though looks to be the best. They have many backgrounds, characters, objects and sharing options. The site is free to use and has paid services that will allow you as a teacher to monitor students work. I think <a href="http://www.storyboardthat.com/" target="_blank">StoryBoardThat </a>would be a great technology integration tool with classes like ELL and any class that requires writing which should be most of them. Below you will find an example an embedded comic strip that demonstrates Amendment 2. Like I mentioned, after the comic strip and story is made it is very simple to then take the code snippit and embed the image into your website.<br />
<a href="http://www.storyboardthat.com/userboards/zosing44/amendment-2"><br />
<img height="209" src="http://sbt.blob.core.windows.net/storyboards/zosing44/amendment-2.png" width="640" /><br />

<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.storyboardthat.com/" target="_blank">StoryBoardThat tutorial</a><br />
<br />
1. Go to <a href="http://www.storyboardthat.com/">www.storyboardthat.com</a> website and create a new account. Then just click the "Create a Storyboard" link found at the top.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nfrEARUPdeE/UsHEu248rUI/AAAAAAAAGMY/D3EvK8UWBKI/s1600/Screenshot_1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="79" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nfrEARUPdeE/UsHEu248rUI/AAAAAAAAGMY/D3EvK8UWBKI/s320/Screenshot_1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
2. Just drag and drop characters onto the storyboard. There are quite a few to choose from. Note also that you can add scenes, text bubbles, stencils and objects or you can just upload your own.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jvo1JnPuybc/UsHEu-0I5BI/AAAAAAAAGMk/Z8fUWSw8Bts/s1600/Screenshot_2.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="113" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jvo1JnPuybc/UsHEu-0I5BI/AAAAAAAAGMk/Z8fUWSw8Bts/s400/Screenshot_2.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
3. Once you drag something onto the canvas you should get options. For example after dragging on this angry woman onto the storyboard I can now use the "handles" and re-size or rotate her. I can change the color of her hair, skin, shirt, skirt, and shoes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Nq8OfSzgM7o/UsHEvp2WYBI/AAAAAAAAGMo/8uJvyrtP9Iw/s1600/Screenshot_3.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Nq8OfSzgM7o/UsHEvp2WYBI/AAAAAAAAGMo/8uJvyrtP9Iw/s320/Screenshot_3.png" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
4. If i add a textable/text bubble, I will also get some more options like font size and color.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eSZUGFJC-hI/UsHEvuUHuGI/AAAAAAAAGNA/Q6oY2d1p8po/s1600/Screenshot_4.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="152" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eSZUGFJC-hI/UsHEvuUHuGI/AAAAAAAAGNA/Q6oY2d1p8po/s320/Screenshot_4.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
5. Down at the bottom you find your undo, clear all and add cells which will add more area to your comic strip. You can also drag and drop your cells to reorder or rearrange them. From this menu you also find your "Save" button.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cpAum0bJrzs/UsHEwJ2eCxI/AAAAAAAAGM4/EUS7GvTnYaU/s1600/Screenshot_6.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="50" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cpAum0bJrzs/UsHEwJ2eCxI/AAAAAAAAGM4/EUS7GvTnYaU/s400/Screenshot_6.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
6. After you are all done creating your educational comic strip and click the "Save" button you will then be asked to give it a title and description. Click the "Save Storyboard" button to view your final product.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

7. On the next screen to the left you will see some sharing options. It is very easy to share to your Facebook, Twitter or your Google+ pages.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pPZhcbxwqBA/UsHExIowWII/AAAAAAAAGNc/UxvePl4B6t0/s1600/Screenshot_8.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pPZhcbxwqBA/UsHExIowWII/AAAAAAAAGNc/UxvePl4B6t0/s1600/Screenshot_8.png" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
8. At the very bottom you can also create a "New Storyboard" edit the one you just did or even delete it. A couple of really cool things you can do is download your comic strip as an image or even a PowerPoint. And finally my favorite thing for me when it comes to web 2.0 tools is the ability to embed the final product into either my website or my blog.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-435fcrZZJMc/UsHExY3q6JI/AAAAAAAAGNI/A_VjS4DZwA0/s1600/Screenshot_9.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="48" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-435fcrZZJMc/UsHExY3q6JI/AAAAAAAAGNI/A_VjS4DZwA0/s640/Screenshot_9.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
9. Once you click the "Embed" button you will get the code snippet. Just copy and paste it into your classes blog or website for all to enjoy or learn from.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0id1wePCevc/UsHEu_Gxn4I/AAAAAAAAGMc/JGsRjHPYSwA/s1600/Screenshot_10.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="117" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0id1wePCevc/UsHEu_Gxn4I/AAAAAAAAGMc/JGsRjHPYSwA/s320/Screenshot_10.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Creating this comic strip is fast and easy. Try having your students create one as one of their options of reporting information.</div>

I was hoping that this was a rumor I had heard on Google Plus, but it is in fact true. Smarttech starting in April of 2014 will begin charging a subscription fee to their Notebook products. It is called the "Notebook Advantage." Smarttech I have to admit that I am a little disappointed. I love your software and got my entire school district to purchase a Smartboard for every classroom, and now you are saying that I am going to have to pay a fee to get the product updates. Not cool. Unfortunately we are already invested in using the SMART products, and will probably buy, but I promise that as newer technologies come out we will now keep our eyes open for something else.<br />
<br />
Sorry to my readers for my rant, but here is the link to the <a href="http://smarttech.com/Solutions/Education+Solutions/Products+for+education/Software/SMART+Notebook+collaborative+learning+software/Notebook+Advantage?tab=2#faq1" target="_blank">FAQ on SMART Notebook Advantage.</a><br />

Ok, now I really like this idea. <a href="http://www.powtoon.com/" target="_blank">PowToon </a>allows you to create animated presentations within minutes. I couldn't believe how simple it was. This may be one of those digital tools worth buying. I am a big fan of blogging about <b>free </b>web 2.0 tools and <a href="http://www.powtoon.com/" target="_blank">PowToon </a>is definitely free, but you can create class sets for yearly fees. You can create up to 30 exports for free and the only drawback is that your video export gets branded with the "<a href="http://www.powtoon.com/" target="_blank">PowToon</a>" logo. Just watch the example below to see what <a href="http://www.powtoon.com/" target="_blank">PowToon </a>can do. It does much more. In fact there is so much that this tutorial is going to be short. Like always, if you truly want to get good at any app product then you need to "play" with and explore all the options.<br />
<br />
<iframe frameborder="0" height="311" src="http://www.powtoon.com/embed/glfDA8TKLum/" width="480"></iframe><br />

<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
7. At the top, you have your standard icons that you would find in almost any presentation software. You can add images, sounds, and text as well as change the way the text looks.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XzzXaFZ2xLs/Ur3WQxxwqrI/AAAAAAAAGL4/SzeJi7CZjVA/s1600/Screenshot_7.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="34" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XzzXaFZ2xLs/Ur3WQxxwqrI/AAAAAAAAGL4/SzeJi7CZjVA/s320/Screenshot_7.png" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
8. Also at the top you have a "Preview" and an "Export" button. You can easily export your videos to Youtube. To get your embed codes though just click the "Preview" button.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
9. Now click the "embed" button. Just copy the embed code and paste it into your blog or website.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DJDHy21q-OU/Ur3WQ2dSa9I/AAAAAAAAGMA/JqMh0mwPqi8/s1600/Screenshot_9.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DJDHy21q-OU/Ur3WQ2dSa9I/AAAAAAAAGMA/JqMh0mwPqi8/s1600/Screenshot_9.png" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.powtoon.com/" target="_blank">Give PowToon a try</a> and comment below how your PowToon came out and if there are other web 2.0 tools that you would like to share, that can be used for technology integration in the k12 classroom.<br />

Once upon a time, when I was teaching 7th Grade Earth Science, I used a product from Microsoft that allowed you to add video and voice to your presentations. I would then upload the presentation to my class website. When I had a sub I actually have them go through the PowerPoint and my students wouldn't miss me much because there I was in front of them, as if I had never left. My students would always ask why they could never get rid of me. <br />
<br />
The problem with my method above is that for the average user and anybody who didn't have time could never really duplicate it. I too, thought that I just didn't have enough time, to film myself and then upload the whole thing to my website and then make sure I explained it to the substitute. Well <a href="http://www.knovio.com/" target="_blank">Knovio</a>, I think solved the time and frustration issue. This website allows you to upload the PowerPoint which takes seconds and then record your video and voice onto their website so that you can save time by not having to upload it yourself. Also you can embed the presentation or just give your substitute the link so that he/she can easily get to it.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.knovio.com/" target="_blank">Knovio Tutorial</a><br />
<br />
1. Go to <a href="http://www.knovio.com/">www.knovio.com</a> and register. After registering you just click the "Upload Slides" button.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ED0lvWJZDcw/UryK_e54tGI/AAAAAAAAGJU/TyA7zGewdDs/s1600/Screenshot_1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ED0lvWJZDcw/UryK_e54tGI/AAAAAAAAGJU/TyA7zGewdDs/s1600/Screenshot_1.png" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
2. It will then start processing the PowerPoint slides.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mI4hhQ-2jU0/UryLEHN_s9I/AAAAAAAAGJc/WwUdhIzaVzk/s1600/Screenshot_2.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="96" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mI4hhQ-2jU0/UryLEHN_s9I/AAAAAAAAGJc/WwUdhIzaVzk/s320/Screenshot_2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />

One of the many awesome features of Google Presentations is that you can embed your presentation into your website or blog. This is cool, because you only have to embed it once and any change you make after that will automatically be updated. Your students will have access to the latest version/revision of your presentation. Embedding the Google Presentation also gives your students easy access to it from home. This really helps with the latest educational idea of the Flipped Classroom where students can learn much of the material from their house.<br />

A few years back I ran into the Voki website and thought it was a funny idea to create a Voki and add it to my website. My students thought I was crazy, our internet speed was atrocious and I was still using a Windows 98 machine and my student machines didn't have the latest browsers so using Voki just wasn't worth it. Now that our school is doing really well with technology integration and many of our teachers are creating class website, I though I would blog a little about Voki. Voki is an avatar creator. I literally only takes seconds to create an avatar that can speak to your students from within your website. Below is an example of one. This is one that literally took seconds to do. I am on Christmas vacation so I didn't even have anything clever to say, but if you are interested in creating a Voki for your school website or blog, below is a tutorial on how simple it is.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="0" src="http://c.gigcount.com/wildfire/IMP/CXNID=2000002.0NXC/bT*xJmx*PTEzODc2NTEyMTU1MTcmcHQ9MTM4NzY1MTIyOTcxNyZwPTk3NTA3MiZkPTAwMCUyMC*lMjBWb2tpJTIwV2lkZ2V*Jmc9/MSZvPTgzMjUwZjc5N2UwYjQ1NzA4OGE2MWI1MDY3ZDk1ZDI3Jm9mPTA=.gif" style="height: 0px; visibility: hidden; width: 0px;" width="0" /><object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,28,0" height="267" id="widget_name" width="200"><param name="movie" value="http://vhss-d.oddcast.com/vhss_editors/voki_player.swf?doc=http://vhss-d.oddcast.com/php/vhss_editors/getvoki/chsm=0d1f953cc4a9c0006f33c6da1d9ba458%26sc=9171671" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="width" value="200" /><param name="height" value="267" /><param name="allowNetworking" value="all"/><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><embed height="267" width="200" src="http://vhss-d.oddcast.com/vhss_editors/voki_player.swf?doc=http%3A%2F%2Fvhss-d.oddcast.com%2Fphp%2Fvhss_editors%2Fgetvoki%2Fchsm=0d1f953cc4a9c0006f33c6da1d9ba458%26sc=9171671" quality="high" allowScriptAccess="always" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" allowFullScreen="true" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" name="widget_name"></object> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1. After you create an account and log in to it at <a href="http://www.voki.com/">http://www.voki.com</a> , just click the "Create a New Voki" button.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R3FY-5Ct9hQ/UrXia2UmXHI/AAAAAAAAGGY/faOWSiH_0d4/s1600/Screenshot_1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-R3FY-5Ct9hQ/UrXia2UmXHI/AAAAAAAAGGY/faOWSiH_0d4/s1600/Screenshot_1.png" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
2. Next pick a character and start customizing it. You can add hair, change the mouth style, change its clothing and "bling" it out. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Dzmk6YhLueI/UrXiYj5HLqI/AAAAAAAAGFk/g6dbUuWfm0E/s1600/Screenshot_2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Dzmk6YhLueI/UrXiYj5HLqI/AAAAAAAAGFk/g6dbUuWfm0E/s320/Screenshot_2.png" width="225" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
3.<span style="color: #0000ee;"> You will notice a di<span style="color: #0000ee;"> once in a<span style="color: #0000ee;">while. This will just quickly randomize the look of your avatar for you. You can also manually c<span style="color: #0000ee;">hange the <span style="color: #0000ee;">features of the avatar's body as well as its color.</span></span></span></span></span> <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uCqocEGBq0s/UrXiYnDH4oI/AAAAAAAAGFg/QRxoepgcTDU/s1600/Screenshot_3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uCqocEGBq0s/UrXiYnDH4oI/AAAAAAAAGFg/QRxoepgcTDU/s1600/Screenshot_3.png" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. Now give it a voice. The phone icon will let you call in and give it your own voice if you don't happen to have a microphone. I prefer the mic option. You can also have a computerized voice by just clicking the "key" button and typing in your message. Finally you can also add a sound file from your computer to your avatar.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0-JhKCAHabs/UrXiZB5U5QI/AAAAAAAAGFs/Q9BbETxqEik/s1600/Screenshot_4.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0-JhKCAHabs/UrXiZB5U5QI/AAAAAAAAGFs/Q9BbETxqEik/s320/Screenshot_4.png" width="255" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
5. Now choose a different background for your scene to take place in. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RcWGe9iKd9I/UrXiZbscUPI/AAAAAAAAGF8/5zBa_Txna0k/s1600/Screenshot_5.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RcWGe9iKd9I/UrXiZbscUPI/AAAAAAAAGF8/5zBa_Txna0k/s320/Screenshot_5.png" width="237" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
6. Make sure you click the "Done" button each time you are finished manipulating part of your scene. The "Players" button lets you change the style of the Voki's media player. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oLeVoCRVQMw/UrXiZqnIZsI/AAAAAAAAGF0/A1IwHkdeOAw/s1600/Screenshot_6.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oLeVoCRVQMw/UrXiZqnIZsI/AAAAAAAAGF0/A1IwHkdeOAw/s1600/Screenshot_6.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
7. Once you are done playing with and creating your Voki, just click the "Publish" button. <br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tbyDEL81mAk/UrXiaMPfvOI/AAAAAAAAGGA/gvXNkLqXsv0/s1600/Screenshot_7.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tbyDEL81mAk/UrXiaMPfvOI/AAAAAAAAGGA/gvXNkLqXsv0/s1600/Screenshot_7.png" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
8. Give you Voki file a name and click "Save."<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0e6XBdTxjeI/UrXiab3M0TI/AAAAAAAAGGI/X7PW7UcfEf0/s1600/Screenshot_8.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0e6XBdTxjeI/UrXiab3M0TI/AAAAAAAAGGI/X7PW7UcfEf0/s1600/Screenshot_8.png" /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-c5eAN_S9Cck/Uq-NtqtZrQI/AAAAAAAAGEA/eK6rGKZLVr8/s1600/Screenshot_3.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-c5eAN_S9Cck/Uq-NtqtZrQI/AAAAAAAAGEA/eK6rGKZLVr8/s1600/Screenshot_3.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
3. You will see a "New version:" section. Just put a check mark into the check box that says, "Try the new Google Sheets." <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uVD-f49DjRk/Uq-NuBt9-UI/AAAAAAAAGEg/XLsB2z0bmSE/s1600/Screenshot_4.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="136" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uVD-f49DjRk/Uq-NuBt9-UI/AAAAAAAAGEg/XLsB2z0bmSE/s640/Screenshot_4.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
4. NOTE: Your old spreadsheets will be used with the older format, but your newer sheets will now have the latest features. You can go through the "tour" by clicking the "Next" button your you can always skip the tour by clicking the "Skip tour" button. The Google Sheets tour just shows some of the new things you can do with the program. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L8HN5I4KiCs/Uq-NuQvsnyI/AAAAAAAAGEI/buWjVd6sjgY/s1600/Screenshot_5.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L8HN5I4KiCs/Uq-NuQvsnyI/AAAAAAAAGEI/buWjVd6sjgY/s320/Screenshot_5.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
5. That is all there is to changing over to the newer version. To play with the ability to assign spreadsheet tabs a new color, just create a new spreadsheet from within your Google Drive. Once you are in the spreadsheet document, just click the drop down arrow next to the sheet name, in this case "Sheet1." Just choose the "Change color" option and pick your color.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--88NMbDuRqk/Uq-Nv1lpUkI/AAAAAAAAGEk/m_cX265raqE/s1600/Screenshot_6.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--88NMbDuRqk/Uq-Nv1lpUkI/AAAAAAAAGEk/m_cX265raqE/s320/Screenshot_6.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
6. You can now see that the "Sheet1" tab has a blue line running below it. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OFVZaieGNcs/Uq-Nu2Yxk6I/AAAAAAAAGEc/PGXOyV8X_f8/s1600/Screenshot_7.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OFVZaieGNcs/Uq-Nu2Yxk6I/AAAAAAAAGEc/PGXOyV8X_f8/s1600/Screenshot_7.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
7. Change each tab you create for coding purposes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zQDRo8EpW80/Uq-P90wvxHI/AAAAAAAAGE4/JpyaG2kXkq0/s1600/Screenshot_8.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="49" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zQDRo8EpW80/Uq-P90wvxHI/AAAAAAAAGE4/JpyaG2kXkq0/s320/Screenshot_8.png" width="320" /></a></div>

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Here is an excellent new concept and idea from <a href="http://www.educanon.com/" target="_blank">eduCanon</a>. They have created a website that will allow you to take any Youtube or Vimeo video and create a lesson based on the video. Again, an excellent idea.<br />
<br />
Assign the activity to your students. They will then log in and go to the lesson. Next they will view the video that will have questions as you go along. Your students will answer those questions which are then graded for the end of the film so that you can see how well they did.<br />
<br />
Students will be able to view remedial material from anyplace in the world and their learning will be reinforced by some extra content.<br />
<br />
Here is a tutorial on some of the features in the <a href="http://www.educanon.com/" target="_blank">eduCanon </a>system.<br />
<br />
1. Make sure you sign up at <a href="http://www.educanon.com/">www.educanon.com</a>. It is free, but some of the premium features are going to cost some money. Log in to the system.<br />
<br />
<br />
2. Click the "Build" tab at the top of the screen.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-caDOq2Zirgo/UqZS3W46qpI/AAAAAAAAF_k/5Z2vFK_bLNI/s1600/Screenshot_1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="22" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-caDOq2Zirgo/UqZS3W46qpI/AAAAAAAAF_k/5Z2vFK_bLNI/s320/Screenshot_1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Next give your lesson a title and objective. Also select the grade level, subject, and subtopic. Also paste the URL to the video you want to create a lesson with.<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R7RaQnvrFvw/UqZTnh2kUuI/AAAAAAAAGAs/EcciO5okUos/s1600/Screenshot_11.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="244" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R7RaQnvrFvw/UqZTnh2kUuI/AAAAAAAAGAs/EcciO5okUos/s640/Screenshot_11.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
4. Now start watching your video. When you come to a place where you would like to insert a questions, click the "Build Question" button.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SoQzGeE6K_c/UqZS6M-9zVI/AAAAAAAAGAA/kmHiJsaE7Fg/s1600/Screenshot_2.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="73" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SoQzGeE6K_c/UqZS6M-9zVI/AAAAAAAAGAA/kmHiJsaE7Fg/s320/Screenshot_2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
5. Just type the questions into the text box. You do have formatting options. Toward the bottom you can type in the answers. Make sure that you select the correct answer. If you need more answer choices click the "Add Answer" button. When you are done with the question click the "Save Question at ..." button.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r4itEQH5KuE/UqZS3UyiQvI/AAAAAAAAF_o/X3OC4PVAxy8/s1600/Screenshot_3.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="286" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r4itEQH5KuE/UqZS3UyiQvI/AAAAAAAAF_o/X3OC4PVAxy8/s400/Screenshot_3.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
6. You should now be able to view what you question looks like. You can update it by clicking the edit button.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TNwo0Xu5Apc/UqZS4SZKGzI/AAAAAAAAF_s/t_sLf99GJw0/s1600/Screenshot_4.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="101" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TNwo0Xu5Apc/UqZS4SZKGzI/AAAAAAAAF_s/t_sLf99GJw0/s320/Screenshot_4.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
7. As you are adding questions you will notice question marks being added to the bottom of you video's screen. These are where you questions will be inserted. Once you are done with your video lesson, click the "Finish Build."<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BSVScYi4rUQ/UqZS9jrYqzI/AAAAAAAAGAg/VaAjdPdrIVM/s1600/Screenshot_5.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BSVScYi4rUQ/UqZS9jrYqzI/AAAAAAAAGAg/VaAjdPdrIVM/s1600/Screenshot_5.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
8. A popup window will appear asking you to assign the lesson. The "Assign Lesson" button will allow you to enter a calendar so that you can assign an appropriate date to your lesson.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Rfm7GsvupV0/UqZS5gtHTsI/AAAAAAAAF_8/XMTbxrJ7oZE/s1600/Screenshot_6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="117" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Rfm7GsvupV0/UqZS5gtHTsI/AAAAAAAAF_8/XMTbxrJ7oZE/s320/Screenshot_6.png" width="320" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
9. Just click the date you want your students to be able to access your lesson.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XeJV45dEZ4E/UqZS6ol-pqI/AAAAAAAAGAE/OSFPo4ZAZIg/s1600/Screenshot_7.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="57" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XeJV45dEZ4E/UqZS6ol-pqI/AAAAAAAAGAE/OSFPo4ZAZIg/s320/Screenshot_7.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
10. You will see your video lessons appear on the right hand side of you screen. Just drag and drop them onto the lessons canvas.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_Qo0hIeXqE4/UqZS7ER6XKI/AAAAAAAAGAI/_DVYHJFFZs8/s1600/Screenshot_8.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_Qo0hIeXqE4/UqZS7ER6XKI/AAAAAAAAGAI/_DVYHJFFZs8/s1600/Screenshot_8.png" /> </a></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
11. When your students view the lesson they will be prompted to answer questions at the specified video time. They will then submit their answers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FW_i-LymQ68/UqZWPVFMT9I/AAAAAAAAGBU/Ra7fl-cXHZw/s1600/Screenshot_9.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FW_i-LymQ68/UqZWPVFMT9I/AAAAAAAAGBU/Ra7fl-cXHZw/s320/Screenshot_9.png" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
13. The second button allows you to share the lesson. Below is an example of a Bill Nye the Science Guy video lesson. I only have the first three questions done so that you can see what it is like. If you wait until the 27th second you should be able to see how the questions with the video actually work.</div>

I came across this excellent writing site while trying to find some new ways to help my 5th grade home schooled special needs child write a little more and enjoy doing it. With <a href="http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/story-starters/" target="_blank">Scholastic's Story Starters</a> students get to spin a "Slot Machine" styled randomizer that randomizes parts of a theme. Each part doesn't necessarily go with the other parts so a student would have to really be creative with his writing to tie in all parts of the writing prompt.<br />
<br />
For example, after spinning the machine I get:<br />
"Describe a typical day of"....."a weightless"...."inventor"......"who plays in an intergalactic football league."<br />
<br />
The ideas don't match all the way, but now my son has to go and figure out how to tie together all parts of this story.<br />
<br />
Here is a quick tutorial/show and tell about what you can do with <a href="http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/story-starters/" target="_blank">Scholastic's Story Starters.</a><br />
<br />
1. Go to <a href="http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/story-starters/">http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/story-starters/</a><br />
<br />
2. Your students will first pick a different story starter theme. Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-Fi or a completely random idea.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WM_ZYH94YO0/UqUe53V-0MI/AAAAAAAAF-M/fYY1o9ISP8A/s1600/Screenshot_1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="98" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WM_ZYH94YO0/UqUe53V-0MI/AAAAAAAAF-M/fYY1o9ISP8A/s320/Screenshot_1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
3. In this example I chose the Adventure story. Your student will now type their first name in and select the grade level they belong to.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GPJdqnBmScE/UqUe57sFkRI/AAAAAAAAF-Q/hfwOlTdQp8A/s1600/Screenshot_2.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="147" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GPJdqnBmScE/UqUe57sFkRI/AAAAAAAAF-Q/hfwOlTdQp8A/s320/Screenshot_2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
4. They can either spin each individual part or the bigger lever which will randomly select all 4 part to the story. You will see each part appear after you spin the wheels.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-khAJTfi4uj8/UqUe8tIXouI/AAAAAAAAF_A/Upp1RRh6Wwk/s1600/Screenshot_3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-khAJTfi4uj8/UqUe8tIXouI/AAAAAAAAF_A/Upp1RRh6Wwk/s320/Screenshot_3.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
5. Click the "Next" button found in the bottom right corner.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JLDSIRibT-0/UqUe6cRNiVI/AAAAAAAAF-o/-UF6_-4quyc/s1600/Screenshot_4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JLDSIRibT-0/UqUe6cRNiVI/AAAAAAAAF-o/-UF6_-4quyc/s1600/Screenshot_4.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
6. Now they will pick what type of writing assignment they need to do. The choices are writing in a notebook, letter, newspaper, or postcard. You can also select whether they will need to draw as part of their story. Click the "Next" button.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-S_K_OJZz6F8/UqUe66li8nI/AAAAAAAAF-g/YpZC6eEQ7ss/s1600/Screenshot_5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-S_K_OJZz6F8/UqUe66li8nI/AAAAAAAAF-g/YpZC6eEQ7ss/s320/Screenshot_5.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
7. Now your students will click on the paper template and start typing their story. They can also click in the box to draw if they selected the "drawing" option.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aZ8R_g5K2kc/UqUe7XqUBSI/AAAAAAAAF-w/Z-4N8IVu4HA/s1600/Screenshot_6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aZ8R_g5K2kc/UqUe7XqUBSI/AAAAAAAAF-w/Z-4N8IVu4HA/s320/Screenshot_6.png" width="272" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
8. Off to the right of your writing canvas you will see some other buttons that allow you to start new stories, delete pages, add, pages, and navigate through your pages. Once your students are done with the story they will click the "All Done" button.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Y2jw0m7bsB0/UqUe706gcFI/AAAAAAAAF_E/nWhBeD4rulI/s1600/Screenshot_7.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Y2jw0m7bsB0/UqUe706gcFI/AAAAAAAAF_E/nWhBeD4rulI/s320/Screenshot_7.png" width="310" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
9. Your students will then be directed to a window where they can print or download their story. The download button will download the story as a PDF.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_OsRuiGnoRg/UqUe8aNqi9I/AAAAAAAAF-4/MuEWJ3xsuN8/s1600/Screenshot_8.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="229" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_OsRuiGnoRg/UqUe8aNqi9I/AAAAAAAAF-4/MuEWJ3xsuN8/s320/Screenshot_8.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Give the <a href="http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/story-starters/" target="_blank">Story Starters</a> a chance. I think your students will surely enjoy the unique and many times weir themes.<br />

Came across this website today called News in Levels. The developers of the site have come up with, what I think as, a brilliant idea and an educational idea that I haven't seen yet. What they do is take news articles and then re-write them in two other levels. In other words if you are just learning English like an ELL student is, then you would read the articles at a Level One, (pretty much everything is in present tense, not sure if I like that idea). Level two steps up the readability of the news article and level three is the complete article.<br />
<br />
Also for each difficulty there is a section called "Difficult Words" in which you will see a word classified as difficult with an accompanying definition or synonym.<br />
<br />
Finally below each level is a sound or video file of the article being read or the actual news article seen through video. Just click on the media file to have it read to you.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

For those districts using GAFE (Google Apps For Education) and specifically the ability to collaborate on work with staff and students and who have used the "Comments" part of any document, you might be interested in using "Voice Comments" extension. With "Voice Comments" you can quickly give and receive feedback on documents within Google Drive. This extension works well and is easy to use. A nice newly added touch to Voice Comments is the ability to add external links such as Youtube videos that might just help students get a little more information about their topic. Give it a try, I think you will be impressed.<br />

Thinkport's "Create your Own Museum" is a great way for students to graphically showcase information that they might have gathered while creating a report for your class. With the "Create your Own Museum" activity students can upload images that they gather based on some educational concept and then create a museum that can be printed or emailed. They can add information to each image to demonstrate their content knowledge and then share it with you as their teacher. Below is a quick tutorial on how to use "Create your Own Museum."<br />
<br />
<br />
1. First go to <a href="http://museum.thinkport.org/">http://museum.thinkport.org/</a> and then click the "Make a New Museum" button. You might consider having your students create their own account so that they can save their work.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gz8BLPwbuxw/Upi8aSCzWxI/AAAAAAAAF3E/eSiX3l2M75M/s1600/Screenshot_1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="152" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gz8BLPwbuxw/Upi8aSCzWxI/AAAAAAAAF3E/eSiX3l2M75M/s400/Screenshot_1.png" width="400" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gz8BLPwbuxw/Upi8aSCzWxI/AAAAAAAAF3E/eSiX3l2M75M/s1600/Screenshot_1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><br />
<br />
2. You can use the arrows to select the museum layout that you would want to use.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t_plwoVGIbA/Upi84gq-HoI/AAAAAAAAF3g/hkkpIL2IpCw/s1600/Screenshot_2.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t_plwoVGIbA/Upi84gq-HoI/AAAAAAAAF3g/hkkpIL2IpCw/s320/Screenshot_2.png" width="262" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
3. Now click on one of the gray numbered boxes off to the right of your museum's layout.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AiuzpUaZMxM/Upi84rtSwAI/AAAAAAAAF3c/u_g-6RaYAF8/s1600/Screenshot_3.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="286" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AiuzpUaZMxM/Upi84rtSwAI/AAAAAAAAF3c/u_g-6RaYAF8/s320/Screenshot_3.png" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
4. Use Thinkport's Image library or your own. Most likely your students will want to upload images they found on the web. Click the "Upload New Image" link found directly under the "My Idea Box" radio button.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-71C7XOi0t_g/Upi84ydXSaI/AAAAAAAAF34/0CBefYLSGFo/s1600/Screenshot_4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="160" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-71C7XOi0t_g/Upi84ydXSaI/AAAAAAAAF34/0CBefYLSGFo/s320/Screenshot_4.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5. Fill out the information as needed. The neat thing is that you can add searchable keywords, grade levels, and subject areas to your images. Click "Browse" to find your image on the computer. Once you have added the image click "Begin Upload."</div>

<a href="http://www.kerpoof.com/" target="_blank">Kerpoof</a> is a website that is owned by Walt Disney. It allows students to access their creative side and allowing them to share their work with others. <a href="http://www.kerpoof.com/" target="_blank">Kerpoof</a> has many built in scenes and ideas to help students come up with a story that they can be proud of. They can then take their work and share it with parents or the teacher.<br />
<br />
Teachers can give students an opportunity to create a movie that involves writing, sequencing events and thinking about cause and effects. I use <a href="http://www.kerpoof.com/" target="_blank">Kerpoof </a>with my special needs student that we are home schooling this year. He enjoys taking the 100's of images and creating birthday and holiday cards, animated stories with music and sound. There is also an activity called "Spell a Word" which will pull out images based on words that they are spelling.<br />
<br />
Below is a tutorial on what you will find if you decide to use <a href="http://www.kerpoof.com/" target="_blank">Kerpoof</a> with your students.<br />
<br />
1. First go to <a href="http://www.kerpoof.com/">www.kerpoof.com</a> and you will see the 6 educational ideas you can use <a href="http://www.kerpoof.com/" target="_blank">Kerpoof</a> for.<br />
<img border="0" height="77" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IPFbMQYST7c/UpYnPPCqZfI/AAAAAAAAF1c/_lMESrrm_7Y/s400/Screenshot_1.png" width="400" /><br />
<br />
<br />
2. As you start to spell words images of possibilities start to show up. Once the word is complete you will be left with images that you can grab and put in your picture.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2C2k9V9JHgg/UpYnsvvxwNI/AAAAAAAAF1k/oKJ-8-GfOek/s1600/Screenshot_2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2C2k9V9JHgg/UpYnsvvxwNI/AAAAAAAAF1k/oKJ-8-GfOek/s320/Screenshot_2.png" width="320" /></a><div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2C2k9V9JHgg/UpYnsvvxwNI/AAAAAAAAF1k/oKJ-8-GfOek/s1600/Screenshot_2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> </a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. If you are creating a story you will be asked to choose a story line. There are quite a few creative ideas to choose from. Use the yellow arrow to scroll through all of the story line options. Click on your story choice.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ljziqU9s7ro/UpYoAC04O4I/AAAAAAAAF1s/iwsA3_YqBv4/s1600/Screenshot_3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="182" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ljziqU9s7ro/UpYoAC04O4I/AAAAAAAAF1s/iwsA3_YqBv4/s320/Screenshot_3.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. Next you will be asked to choose the story's scenery. Just click on the one that you are interested in. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D7cy6Uc-G9A/UpYoit0nx_I/AAAAAAAAF18/SLgdwieKDy4/s1600/Screenshot_4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-D7cy6Uc-G9A/UpYoit0nx_I/AAAAAAAAF18/SLgdwieKDy4/s320/Screenshot_4.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5. Once you are looking at your scene you can now choose some objects to add to your story. Just drag the image from the right column onto a location of the scene.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-c7eKQoZMQl0/UpYoctkunSI/AAAAAAAAF10/AoQnHukHEls/s1600/Screenshot_5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="308" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-c7eKQoZMQl0/UpYoctkunSI/AAAAAAAAF10/AoQnHukHEls/s320/Screenshot_5.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
6. Below your story you will now see some methods on how you want your objects to act on the set. You can have them move across the scene, say something, turn invisible, and rotate. You can also have the entire scene perform a task, like showing titles, playing back ground music, fade to black or cause weather to happen. These methods though change with the different scenes and story lines.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VMzC_P7dGt4/UpYpK78ljXI/AAAAAAAAF2E/R4NpXhUqABI/s1600/Screenshot_6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="154" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VMzC_P7dGt4/UpYpK78ljXI/AAAAAAAAF2E/R4NpXhUqABI/s320/Screenshot_6.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
7. Just drag the methods to your timeline or image. You will get pop up messages asking for more specifics as you add methods to your story. Below is a picture of a pop up message for playing a song during your scene.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4v_gGQStr4w/UpYp24yC5JI/AAAAAAAAF2Q/KAB2L0BbugE/s1600/Screenshot_7.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4v_gGQStr4w/UpYp24yC5JI/AAAAAAAAF2Q/KAB2L0BbugE/s320/Screenshot_7.png" width="279" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
8. On the left hand column you will see where you can email or print your movie. Just play with the different functions until you and your child become professionals.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Da1k1pLGhhw/UpYqK0-X4dI/AAAAAAAAF2Y/Fd-7XHkUNio/s1600/Screenshot_9.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Da1k1pLGhhw/UpYqK0-X4dI/AAAAAAAAF2Y/Fd-7XHkUNio/s320/Screenshot_9.png" width="57" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
9. With <a href="http://www.kerpoof.com/" target="_blank">Kerpoof</a> you can easily create cards for special events or occasions. Just select the template you want to start with.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-atpE9bH83oo/UpYqbhTz19I/AAAAAAAAF2g/iDBKAJq8OZc/s1600/Screenshot_10.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="196" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-atpE9bH83oo/UpYqbhTz19I/AAAAAAAAF2g/iDBKAJq8OZc/s320/Screenshot_10.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
10. One of my favorite parts to <a href="http://www.kerpoof.com/" target="_blank">Kerpoof</a> is the Story book your students can write. Just have them choose a story line.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tUMdNFmJUhw/UpYqtc9BagI/AAAAAAAAF2o/dHqVmUdE7P4/s1600/Screenshot_11.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="152" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tUMdNFmJUhw/UpYqtc9BagI/AAAAAAAAF2o/dHqVmUdE7P4/s320/Screenshot_11.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
11. They just need to type their story into the "Text" boxes and drag and drop backgrounds and images to their pages. Like all <a href="http://www.kerpoof.com/" target="_blank">Kerpoof</a> activities they can then save and email their finished products.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6V2XOWWIQxM/UpYrBhi-ajI/AAAAAAAAF2w/2AVIG-HH_TU/s1600/Screenshot_12.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="220" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6V2XOWWIQxM/UpYrBhi-ajI/AAAAAAAAF2w/2AVIG-HH_TU/s320/Screenshot_12.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you get a chance to use <a href="http://www.kerpoof.com/" target="_blank">Kerpoof</a> in the classroom, comment below on how it went and how we can use creative tools to go even further.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
